Setting up NPC assault rifle

When i try to add the Assault Rifle to my NPC it doesn't seem to work, it adds to the items on the right hand but doesn't show in the scene, When i select the assault rifle in the hierarchy (pic 2) it shows an outline of the Assault Rifle in the right hand
