search for target and patrol are not activating navmesh links. When they Try to walk to a waypoint across the linked area they just glitch and start walking into the wall.

The behavior tree doesn't do the actual movement - this is up to the underlying pathfinding implementation. For the character controller I implement a customized ability based off of this doc that will take into account the destination of the NavMeshAgent and then move accordingly
