Setting up the controller and left click doesn't fire.

I've been following the video tutorials to set up the controller and when trying to make the gun fire bullets I learned that left click seems to not work. In the tutorial it shows that by now it should be playing a firing animation at least when I hold left click and I followed the tutorial up until at least setting up the muzzle flash and it's not causing the muzzle flash to appear either. Only thin I've been able to narrow down is when I open up the animator and press left click the animator says it's playing the firing animation but it gets stuck in that animation (that isn't actually playing) even if I let go of the button.

Please help.
