Climbing Pack: I’ve noticed a behavior I don’t fully understand.

Hi Opsive Team,

I’m currently testing the Climbing Pack and I’ve noticed a behavior I don’t fully understand.

When I move my player far away from the demo climbing area (for example, dragging the player to a different part of the scene), the climbing system stops working — the player can no longer detect ladders or climbable surfaces.

If I move the player back to the original position, it still doesn’t work.
However, if I start the game from the player’s original position in the demo, everything works perfectly (as shown in the video).

Interestingly, this issue does not happen with the ClimbingAtlas character — it only happens with my own player character.
I also tested using the Atlas Climb setup, and it works without any issue.

Could you please help me understand why this happens and how the Climbing Pack detects climbable objects?
Is there something I need to initialize or refresh when moving the player to a new location in the scene?

Thank you very much for your help and for the amazing tools you’ve created!

Best regards,

Hi, hmmm that is strange, even if there was some crucial trigger object in the middle of the scene, you would end up penetrating it if you moved your character away before entering play mode. The detection settings are in the Object Detection foldout in the Ladder Climb ability as shown in the attached screenshot. You can maybe compare them both in edit and play mode (as they could be changed through the State System) between your character and the demo one. Lastly I can offer you one screenshare for free to take a look at this together if you're interested.

Hi Cheo,

I just wanted to follow up and let you know that I was able to solve the issue.

Interestingly, I fixed it simply by copying my player into another scene — I’m not entirely sure why, but now everything works perfectly.

Thank you very much for your time and support!

Best regards,

Joan
